My Story

I am a sculptor, graphic artist, and educator whose work bridges traditional Sri Lankan art and contemporary modern design. Deeply influenced by nature, my practice reflects both cultural heritage and modern expression, while increasingly focusing on sustainability and environmental awareness.

Over the years, I have designed and built sculptures for hotels, gardens, public spaces, and government institutions in Sri Lanka and abroad. My work spans wildlife painting, figurative drawing, and large-scale public installations, with a particular emphasis on the art of assembly—transforming recycled and discarded materials into powerful works of art.

From 2015 to 2023, I served as Creative Director at Walters Bay Tea Company (USA), leading all international design and branding initiatives.

One of my most recognized creations, a giant elephant sculpture made from scrap plastic and installed on the beach at Uswetakeiyawa, Sri Lanka, was named by National Geographic in 2024 as one of the world’s best environmental artworks. Though the piece was later stolen, it stood as a symbol of sustainability, resilience, and courage.

My career began as a cartoonist for leading Sri Lankan newspapers, where I went on to pioneer computer-aided page design in the print industry. Over time, I embraced education—serving as a visiting lecturer at the University of Aesthetic Studies in Colombo and conducting workshops and exhibitions in Sri Lanka, the UK, China, Australia, Kuwait,Dubai, and Canada.

Now based in Canada, I am actively involved in community and culture-focused art projects. I teach at the Canvastone Children's Art Studio Edmonton Alberta and collaborate with the Nina Haggerty Centre for the Arts, using art as a tool for education, empowerment, and therapy in underrepresented communities.

In my studio practice, I continue to explore upcycling and environmental art, guiding young artists to see creative potential in discarded materials. Through workshops, exhibitions, and collaborative initiatives, I aim to inspire a generation of artists who view art not only as self-expression but also as a call to sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
